Princess

Dear Lexi,

Before our roadtrip,
we squeezed in a little fun for you:
splashing in rain puddles (suede boots and all)
We also squeezed in a little fun for me:
A visit to Bloomingdale's
I needed a new dress/shoes for an upcoming wedding.
I expected a super quick trip.
I expected a fussy toddler -
who fell asleep in her car seat just as we pulled into the parking lot.
I expected a little girl who wanted to play hide and seek in the clothing racks
as I tried to hurry, hurry.
Instead, we spent a delightful hour shopping together.
It was so much fun to have my little sidekick with me.
It reminded me of all those trips I made with my own mom to the Short Hills Mall growing up.
But, the sweetest moment by far came in the dressing room.
I tried on a long, flowy teal gown just for kicks.
You turned and looked at me and gasped,"You're a princess mama!"
And then I did what any princess would do, I handed the dress over to my friend.
You stepped right up to the mirror.
You liked what you saw.
"Now I'm a princess," you said with a big grin.
And...you certainly are!
(But in the words of your Uncle John, hike up that dress!)

Hi E.

How wonderful to have a great little shopping partner!!!! It's sounds like you really had fun. Did you do this type of shopping with your mother at this early age? More important - did you find a frock?
