Baller

When Lexi's friend Callie asked her to play basketball this winter,
we were a little surprised she said yes immediately.

She'd never really shown any interest in the sport
and had never before dribbled a ball.
But, she signed up for the Upward program on Callie's team
and didn't look back.

She was happy to go to practice each week,
eager to get to dribble down the court and shoot,
and in.your.face when it came to defense.

It certainly brought back some fun memories for her momma -
who played for a few years in junior high and high school.
Upward is a national program and it's run very well.
Lexi and all of her teammates improved so much over the course of the season.
They had a ton of fun too!

What a wonderful first experience -
can't wait to teach her HORSE
once we get a hoop at the new house.

Grandest Friends Day

Back in January, Lexi's elementary school hosted "Grandest Friends Day",
a morning where special family members, often grandparents,
are invited in for some grade-wide singing in the gym
and then a few cute activities in the classroom.
We were super excited that Aunt Wendy's visit
coincided with such a sweet event.

The kindergartners sang "Skidamarink" and a few new songs.
It was totally adorable to see them all singing to their heart's content,
complete with hand motions.

Back in Miss Smith's classroom,
Lexi led the kids in a poem about grandmothers putting on makeup.
There was also a little dance they had practiced for weeks,
and a cute Q&A on the white board.
What a special tradition!

Sledding

Well, this year may have been the anomaly,
but Mother Nature was determined to ensure Texas children
got their fare share of winter fun too.
Just days after our first ice/snow storm,
the white stuff appeared again.
After school, we headed straight outside to play in it,
then met friends at Flag Pole Hill for the best sledding in town.
My girls had a ball and could have stayed out there all night long.
Sweet sweet Olivia, who we brought along with us,
is clearly a "Southern girl".
She got wet feet, and needless to say,
that concluded the sleigh riding for all of us.
