Home Sweet Home

It's no secret to anyone who reads this blog regularly,
that we have a big project brewing these days.

After a year of renting here in University Park and getting our Texas bearings...
we have decided to build a home about thirty minutes away.
We have loved our time in UP so much that we'd love to stay,
but we need a bit more space, a bit more yard,
and the soaring real estate prices here make that no small order.
We spent much of the summer exploring the surrounding area,
deciding exactly where we would put down roots.
After driving through the town of Southlake,
we both agreed that it seemed to offer everything we were looking for:
the strong community feel which is so important to us,
the great public schools that we require,
rolling hills, green spaces and tall trees that remind us a little bit of home,
lots of young families,
and some great shopping and dining options.
We are building in a new neighborhood out there,
and we are already knee deep in electrical, multi media and design decisions.
Building a home is no small project, as we soon learned.
But…we are excited to have a brand new house,
to be able to tailor it to our specific taste,
to put in the elements that will make it feel like "ours",
to have plenty of space to welcome visitors,
to host pool parties,
to stretch and grow right along with our girls.
We've already met several neighbors, most of them with young children,
all of them friendly.
They've invited us in their houses to look around, to get ideas.
They've served our kiddos ice pops after a long design meeting tired them out.
They've offered to put beer in their outdoor fridge in case we're ever in the area
and in need of a refreshment (truly!)
and they've met us for dinner so the kids can get to know one another.
While we will be so sad to leave the Park Cities and all the wonderful
gifts it provided when we first moved to Texas,
we are ready to be totally settled.
Southlake, here we come!
