she's turning 70!
We decided a girls' weekend was in order
to mark this special occasion.
I flew in to NYC and met up with mom,
dad and Wendy for lunch at one of our favorite spots,
Bryant Park Grill, before dad left the three of us
for some mother-daughter time.
First, we visited the 9/11 Museum.
I cannot say enough about this testament to one
of our country's darkest days.
It stirs up all the emotions and does a very nice
job of remembering all the lives that were lost.
(this exhibit had participants use various shades
of blue paper to try to replicate
the color of the sky on 9/11.
Something that stands out to everyone
who lived through the day
was what a perfectly blue sky and pretty day
it was before all hell broke loose)
The rest of the weekend, though, had a much lighter note.
We set off to shop and enjoy dinner in Soho.
Mom literally screamed in delight when
we sat down at the table only to find
my aunt and cousin there waiting for us.
What a wonderful surprise for her that
they'd secretly flown in from South Carolina!
The next day was spent visiting museums,
having a picnic in Central Park
on a perfectly lovely fall day,
taking in dinner at Mom's favorite, Becco,
and then hitting Broadway to see the play Kinky Boots.
We rounded out the weekend with breakfast on Sunday.
I'm so glad we could celebrate in a big way
and let Mom know just how special she is to us all!!!!
