You, sweet girl, are now three!
Some days we look at you and still see our little baby.
Other days, we are amazed at how quickly you are growing and changing.
I suppose that's always the way it is with your youngest child.
Without further delay, here's a snapshot of you at 3:
You are still super smiley, usually super sweet, a little shy at first,
much more cautious than your big sister, very determined to keep up
and oh so snuggly.
You are a daddy's girl and race over each day when he arrives home from work,
smiling and cheering.
You beg him for horsey rides and shower him with hugs.
If she is being reprimanded, you yell at us for yelling at her.
"Mommy, you stop that…she's my sister!"
You want to be just like her, want to do everything she's doing.
You tell your friends at school that you're working on "homework" just like Lexi does.
You often want to wear her clothes, her pajamas and her undies.
You might just be faster than her on the scooter,
and to keep up, you have learned to run so super fast on those tiny little legs of yours.
All day long we hear those feet pounding into the ground as you run, run, run.
You are a girl who loves adjectives -
everything is amazing, wonderful, beautiful or disgusting.
When you are really excited,
you talk in this super.squeaky.voice that always makes us laugh.
Just like your sister,
when you need help you yell "Ayudame" as Dora taught you to in Spanish.
You are a "young three" in my opinion.
You are still such a peanut that I find myself carrying you
and babying you more than I should.
You love, love, love your two lambies
and would be happiest taking them along wherever you go.
You are also fiercely attached to your binkie,
which we only allow for sleeping.
We know we need to get rid of it, but we're just not ready to fight that battle yet,
especially because you're such a great sleeper.
We also need to get you into your bed since you now climb out of your crib.
We tried one night and watched you on the monitor -
you jumped out and collected toys and books and stuffed animals -
until we finally gave up.
You are just now starting to learn your letters,
though you actually know the sound many letters make thanks to a great app on my phone.
We are working here at home on recognizing the alphabet and recognizing numbers,
since your 2's class doesn't follow a curriculum this year like Lexi's did.
You still can't pronounce certain letters one hundred percent properly,
so you call yourself Ry-yee, and your sister is Yexi, and your friend is Yiya.
It's just about the sweetest thing I've ever heard.
You get extremely shy in new settings for this first few minutes.
At birthday parties and school drop off and play dates
you often bury your head between my legs and cling to me.
At the playground you stick to Lexi like glue at first -
nervous about all the boys.
You require a few minutes to feel out a situation,
to get your bearings, to build up some courage.
And then, once you get comfortable, you decide to let your guard down,
and you happily play with anyone,
you dole out goodbye hugs to all of your school buddies when I return for you,
you laugh with glee as you take part in the big kid's playground games.
It's certainly quite a change from your "never met a stranger" sister,
but every child is different,
and there's nothing at all wrong with being an observer,
with taking your time to feel comfortable,
with being a little bit cautious.
On the flip side, you are such a little charmer.
I'd be hard pressed to think of a family member of friend
who you haven't wrapped around your little finger.
You are sweet and loving and silly and engaging,
and you bring smiles to all who encounter you.
You are making your very own friends this year -
you talk about the kiddos from your class nearly every day.
Special favorites are John Barron, Christopher, Lila and Caroline.
You had your first drop off play date this week.
You love seeing your girlfriends at ballet each Monday
and taking swim lessons with another buddy on Thursdays.
The staff at preschool is so very sad you are moving this summer…
I was told the 3s teachers were all claiming you for their classes next year.
Your stretch and grow teacher confided in me that you are one of her very favorite kiddos -
she said you are so expressive and excited.
Strangers at the grocery store stop to wave to you or chat with you.
I totally get it - you have the same effect on your mom and dad.
You still love watching Mickey Mouse,
though "Grown up Dora"is what you demand.
You also watch big kid shows like Sofia,
Peppa Pig and Strawberry Shortcake with your sister.
On that note, you enjoy big kid movies - Home Alone, Christmas Vacation,
The Lion King, Frozen, Toy Story - you like them all.
You love arts and crafts, especially painting.
You are into all the princesses, barbie, dress up, etc earlier than your Lexi ever was.
You are crazy good at climbing, the slide still makes you nervous.
You refuse to sit in the grocery cart, you still throw tantrums from time to time.
You have strong opinions about which clothes, shoes, coats and hats you want to wear.
You have a really short attention span when it comes to reading books,
but you happily sit and play Endless Alphabet and Endless Numbers on my iPhone.
You say you want your room in the new house to be yellow,
though purple is your favorite color.
You seem to be a leftie.
You love nothing more than "family hugs",
though bubble baths are a close second.
So there you have it…a little bit about you... at three.
Most importantly, you are so very loved!!!
