The days cool off ever so slowly, bit by bit.
It's not like the Northeast - where you walk outside one day
and there's a crisp in the air.
There aren't gorgeous trees in every shade of red and orange,
as far as the eye can see.
No giant leaf piles to walk through or jump into.
No apple picking with our buddies.
No day that signals the start to school and football season.
Here, things move more slowly.
And before you realize it,
the weather has cooled down,
Halloween, than Thanksgiving are upon you.
And with that, come all four of our birthdays as well
as all the big holidays.
It's proving to be a bit of a hectic, fun, frantic blur.
And then January hits, and there's time to take a deep breath,
to look back on the season that just was and remember
the very best moments.
So here's a little fall flashback for us.
These two had a date to the circus.
We'd been planning special activities for Lexi -
called the Kindergarten Countdown.
Seeing the Barnum and Bailey Circus was certainly a highlight
She looked so forward to them all.
Once school began, Lexi and some buddies took group tennis lessons.
Coach Rodrigo was SO very patient wrangling these four ladies
who come starving and straight from a long day at kindergarten.
We saw huge gains by our girl over the fall season.
It's not fall in Dallas without a trip to the State Fair.
Texas does it BIG, and we always have a great time.
This year we met up with the Halls,
and also happened to run into a buddy from school.
Ryleigh was finally old/tall enough to enjoy some rides too.
The giant slide was everyone's favorite.
Friends told us about a petting zoo/pumpkin patch out in the country.
It was worth the trip - the girls were able to feed a bunch of farm animals,
do a maze in the corn field, ride a tractor, pick some pumpkins
and jump on this huge trampoline
Since we'll soon be living out there,
we decided to join our future neighbors out in Southlake
for the annual Oktoberfest event.
They had tons of carnival rides for the kiddos, beer trucks,
football playing on giant tvs and live music.
It was a really fun day and a great way to see how the
Townsquare really is the heart of town.
True to form, Lexi has a new "boyfriend" this year.
We keep reminding her that everyone at school is just a friend,
but she was still pretty excited when he and his mom took her out for
frozen yogurt one afternoon.
Perfect playdate weather
Many an afternoon was spent biking and scootering
around our neighborhood
We're so happy that our very first friends from Fairfield
moved back to Texas. They're about a half hour away from us,
but every month we try and make plans together.
On this day, we left the kiddos at home and enjoyed some live music
and margaritas at the Truck Yard.
It's always exciting to have visitors,
and we were all happy to spend a weekend with the Rusts
who came to town from Hoboken.
Southlake's other big event is the holiday kick off.
It was packed with children meeting Anna and Elsa,
watching Santa ride in on a firetruck, listening to school choir's
singing Christmas carols, watching the town square tree lighting
and the fan favorite, taking part in Texas'
version of sleigh riding. We were so happy that Lexi's bestie and her family
joined us. Now, if only they'd join us in moving there too!
