School Days

Preschool is cool...isn't it, Alexis?
You seem to love your teachers, Miss Debbie and Miss Elena.
In fact, you have named your Bitty Baby and your Corelle doll after them.
And mommy's old cabbage patch kid has been named Baby Harry -
after a cute little boy in your class.
When you spot your friend Annie in the parking lot,
you race over, grab her hand, and the two of you walk all the way into the classroom like that.
(that's Annie reading a book to you)
You have your very own cubbie,
the perfect spot for your backpack (which is usually always empty) and your lunchbox.
You also have a little mailbox where your teachers leave Mommy notes.
We get one at the start of each week.
It tells us what the "letter of the week" is and what you'll be doing at "school" each day.
Then, of course, there's story time and circle time, playground time and snack time,
arts and crafts time and lunch time.
Talk about a fun few hours.
I'm told that you LOVE to make the art projects.
Your teachers say you race over to the table, ready to get to work.
This makes me so happy as I'm not the most crafty mom,
(your Aunt Wendy is so much better at all that).
but I sure do love to hang your artwork on the fridge.
I'm also told that you are getting more and more comfortable,
more and more vocal.
That despite being the youngest one in class,
you are starting to feel right at home.
The teachers give you two thumbs up, Lexi.
They say you know your ABCs, and your colors, and your numbers too.
They tell me that when they start singing the alphabet song, they can stop mid-way,
and you always finish it for them.
That's our girl!
But when it comes to hearing about your day,
we're usually left hoping for just a bit more info.
Your typical response during the drive home sounds something like this:
"school fun, Lexi come back Monday, blue slide, ABCs, ELENA, DEBBIE,
bye school, Mulberry bush song, more pretzels please Mama."
So imagine our surprise and our delight, when the director Miss Kristen set up a school website.
It has photos, and a class contact list, a birthday calendar and an upcoming events section.
In fact, all of these pictures are from the school website.
It is pure genius for parents like your father and I.
First time parents.
First time parents who are oh-so-curious about how their little girl is doing when she's at school.
I read the updates and look at the pictures during your nap time.
And your daddy asked Miss Kristen for his very own username -
so he could stay up to speed even when he's at work.
We are so very grateful for the wonderful, caring teachers (and director)
who are making your first experience at school such a great one.

Lexi, you are such a big girl at school.
I love to see your artwork.
And did you know that Nanny has something in common with your teacher Debbie?
We both have the same name.

Love,
Nanny
